The Island | Rome, 2013

The Island’ is born from the urge to explore the faces, the stories and the lives of the many Bengali guys who spend their nights working at the gasoline stations in Rome. They sit there for hours, waiting for the drivers to help in exchange of some tips.

Lighted up only by artificial lamps, their faces emerge from the darkness that surrounds them almost like castaways on a remote Island waiting for a ship that can rescue them.

They are men arrived in Italy with the hope to leave behind the problems of their native countries, but yet forced to face the difficulties of one of the biggest metropolis in the world: Rome.

The project, realized between 2012 and 2013, tells about this reality that flows along our sidewalks.
